Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Eli Blasko is a visual artist, performer, designer, muralist, and art writer. He holds a BFA from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. In addition to this, he has studied Spatial Communication at The Academy of Fine Art & Design in Bratislava, Slovakia as well as Traditional Blacksmithing and Steel Fabrication at Touchstone Center for Crafts in Farmington, PA. His recent exhibitions include works shown at the Sculpture X Conference hosted by The Columbus College of Art and Design, The 2014 Pittsburgh Biennial, and solo exhibitions at The Venture Compound in St. Petersburg, FL, The Annex Gallery of Western Illinois University, and 219 Gallery in Dallas, TX. He has completed residencies with The Paducah Arts Alliance, Touchstone Center for Crafts, Hub-Bub, The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and The Charles Adams Studio Project. His recent and ongoing projects include custom set-design for The Little Theatre’s Black Box in Spartanburg, SC, creating a series of six murals/sign paintings for a large-scale mill revitalization project in Drayton, SC, painting a historical mural for Mitchell’s Restaurant and Bar in downtown Pittsburgh, PA (the oldest restaurant in the city still operating, est. 1906) and orchestrating the Temporary Sculpture Garden: Lubbock, TX, a two-month outdoor exhibition featuring ephemeral and site specific works by a diverse range of national artists. Blasko currently lives and works in Spartanburg, SC.
