Gina Pierleoni

I use portraiture to spark conversations about empathy and our common humanity. My mixed media images push past label and judgements in an attempt to ‘de-separate’ us. These are real people, alive, changing, genuine and vulnerable.

The Baltimore Sun described my figures as “gloriously human…there's nothing between them and you to keep them from meeting you head-on. It's hard to get too much of an artist who can convey a sense of self-acceptance and strength even in the knowledge of weakness and fallibility.”

¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬I earned an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Mount Royal) and a BFA in Painting from the College of New Rochelle in New York.

Awards include an Individual Artist’s Grant from The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts; an Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation emergency artist’s grant; and three Individual Artist’s Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council.
