Grace Markman

I was born in Paterson, NJ. My B.A. in Studio Art is from Fordham University and I have an M.F.A. in Painting from Bard College.

I have exhibited my paintings and drawings for over twenty-five years in numerous shows around the Northeastern US and in New York City. My first solo show was in 1987 at Rensselear County Council for the Arts in Troy, NY. I have exhibited in group shows at the University Art Gallery (Albany, NY), the Berkshire Museum (Pittsfield, MA), the Rotunda Gallery (Brooklyn, NY) and The Drawing Center (NYC). I have been awarded artist residencies at Yaddo, Blue Mountain Center and Byrdcliffe. My drawings were also included in TIMELESS: The Art of Drawing (The Morris Museum, 2008) and in WINTER SELECTIONS (The Drawing Center, 2001). I have had two solo shows in New York City, SQUIRM (2003) and RAINBOW TWIST (2005), both at Holland Tunnel in Brooklyn, NY. Art historian Arlene Raven wrote the poems GRACE MARKMAN: LIVING THINGS, in 2003 and FLUTTER, in 2005, in response to these exhibitions.

My home and studio are in Brooklyn.
