Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Guy Kemper is an artist who often translates his paintings into blown glass and mosaic, merging fine art and architectural ornament. He makes work that is evocative of nature and distinctive for its warmth and emotional expressiveness, combining artistic, engineering, and technical skills with innovative ways of manipulating glass and other materials.
He began working as an artist full time in 1983, opening a studio in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. In 1999 he began collaborating with master glass blowers and craftspeople, experimenting with ancient and cutting-edge techniques.
This unique process, combined with superlative design and craftsmanship, has garnered worldwide acclaim, including two CODA International Design Awards. His work has been published, exhibited and collected in the United States, Europe, Japan and the Middle East, and been the subject of three documentary films. Projects include walls of glass for Chicago O’Hare, Baltimore/Washington, Orlando, Nashville, and St. Pete/Clearwater airports, Mt. Baker rail station in Seattle, and the Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero in New York.
Guy lives and works on his 95 acre farm of cliffs and waterfalls in Woodford County, Kentucky. His hobbies include farming, fishing, and building trails and roads through the forest.
