Irene O'Leary

Irene Agnes O'Leary is a visual artist based in Texas. In 2010, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at El Paso where she focused on painting and drawing. While still an undergraduate student, she contributed to a major collaborative renovation of the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso by painting three, large-scale ceiling murals. Since then, her participation in the arts have grown to be recognized in the form of merit awards, and her work has been collected by the Stan Lee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts and the Housing Authority of El Paso. In 2011, Irene pursued and earned her MFA in Multidisciplinary Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013, where her paintings and drawings shifted to incorporate the realm of photography. She has since continued to exhibit in venues such as the El Paso International Airport, Meyerhoff Gallery and Leidy Gallery at Fred Lazarus IV Center at MICA, Glass Gallery at UTEP,and Gallery CA in Baltimore, Maryland.

Irene's work is focused on exploring portraiture as a medium to reflect on social constructions of gender formed by ideologies of visual culture through painting, drawing and photography.
