Justin is a University of Southern Maine Art Alum and holds a BFA in Photography specializing in the critical analysis of images and their impact on social norms & community expectations.
The process in which he makes pictures most closely resembles that of a photographer but he prefers to say image-based works. There is an importance on the form an image takes in order to meet the desired function resulting in an interdisciplinary approach to his practice.
Justin seeks out access points into overlapping communities to offer careful observations and dedicated participation. It is always at the intersection of things where he finds the most interesting work whether it is at the intersection of Art + Medicine or at the intersection of Art + Commerce. These are the hidden places of complicated ideas and complex relationships where he provides tangible opportunities for interaction and engagement. He makes the invisible visible.
He lives in Portland, Maine and runs his own design studio, Shop Geometry. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Hemophilia Alliance of Maine and runs a group of programs called FOLX that celebrate arts & creativity in the bleeding disorders community. He received his first Björk CD in 1997 and never looked back.
