Jan Arabas

I am a printmaker. My subjects are animals and people in relationships with the natural world. I have an interest in Buddhism and also in science. I try to weave these interests into my prints in various ways. For example, I have created prints that are inspired by scientific charts and illustrations. I have also made prints inspired by Cambodian folktales and their interpretation by Khmer monks.
I attended the school of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA where I graduated with a diploma in 1983 and also have a BA in studio art from SUNY at Binghamton, 1979.
My work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Boston Public Library, the Decordova Museum, the university collections at Purdue and USC-Chico and numerous corporate and private collections.
I have fellowships in printmaking from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Artist's Foundation and have won numerous grants and juror's awards.
I belong to the Boston Printmakers and the Monotype Guild of New England.
I teach printmaking at Middlesex Community College in Massachusetts.
In 2010, I will be a Fullbright Hayes Fellow in Cambodia, where I will study Cambodian folktales and teach printmaking.
