My painting explorations encompass a swath of forests and rivers along the spine of the central Green Mountains and coastal treks throughout New England. I observe and record this constantly changing landscape as a way to fully immerse myself and distill my visual recordings into paint. This ecoregion has become a part of my studio and a great source of spiritual and physical renewal. The shifting seasons and light of this environment mix with deep observation to provide a protean mix in painting. As I hike or ski to a location, often setting up on a mountaintop or overlook, the experience of combining stillness with fast paced painting coalesce into a 2D observational work. I aim to combine my years of academic study with being in the moment and paying attention to nature.
