John Cooksey’s work is, above all else, about color. He sees color where many people don't. John is captivated by color constantly and incorporates this experience into his art. He paints vividly colored oil and acrylic compositions that feature complex designs, graphically rendered, often on shaped or dimensional canvases. Prominent themes in John’s work include mathematical design, typography and language, and the human figure. Interpreting these subjects with color is his way of illustrating the profound elegance each embodies.
John Cooksey has worked as an artist and teacher for over forty years. His paintings have been exhibited at the Denver Art Museum and in many solo and group exhibits. Several of his works are displayed at corporate business offices in the United States and abroad. Private collections make up a sizable home for his paintings, prints, and drawings.
John has taught painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture to all ages, and has conducted painting and creativity seminars for children in public and private schools.
John Cooksey was born in Denver, Colorado in 1958. He studied art at the Universities of Colorado, Denver, and California Santa Barbara, and the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design.
