John Woo is an artist/ photographer working in the Greater Washington, DC area. He was born in Tainan, Taiwan. That is roughly translated as Taiwan Southern City. He is a country boy from a country originated by farmers. When Portugese explorers sailed by it in the 16th century, they dubbed it Formosa, or "beautiful island".
He went to American elementary schools in Taipei, Taiwan and Okinawa, Japan, then came to America at the age of seven. They resided in the Baltimore/ Washington DC area.
He studied Studio Art and Art History at Bethany College in West Virginia.
He returned to Taiwan after college to study Mandarin Chinese and Chinese Painting.
He is married to Su Feng Huang, a registered nurse. They have two sons, James and Timothy, both attending graduate school.
