born & raised in the catskill mountains in new york state, residing for the past 2 decades in the mangrove swamps of the florida keys, jonathan schork's work in heavily influenced by his relationship with the natural world. a voracious adventure traveler, he also brings his affection for foreign languages and cultures into his work.
though often identified for his sculpture, schork works across a broad spectrum of media, including painting, photography, theatre, film, jewelry, couture, and the written word; his finished works often include several of these elements in order to achieve the effect he desires. the monumental sculptural installation "autumn leaves for jack & helena" featured giant, hand-cast leaves, mushrooms, acorns, and butterfly larvae, painted and ornamented with original poetry in four languages (russian, french, japanese, and english).
an award winner in the annual SculptureKeyWest expo in 2006, 2007, and 2010, he is also the founder of the new monumental public art show KeyWest ArtGarden. his films include "voile: sails in the desert," a documentary shot at burning man in 2007 featuring his award winning sculpture "pour les enfants d'astrios et eos ii: voile," and the documentary short "moongate: forest of ghosts," shot in the keys in 2010, featuring his award winning sculpture "tsuki no mon ni: yurei no mori."
