Josh de Sousa heads New York based design studio Hou de Sousa along with his partner Nancy Hou. The studio has completed a range of work, including public spaces, art installations, restaurants, and private residences. Recent awards and honors include Hou de Sousa's selection as the winners of the 2016 Socrates Sculpture Park Folly Competition, the winning entry for the Re-ball! International Design Competition, selection as Finalists for the 2015 City of Dreams Competition, selection as Finalist's for Arch Out Loud's Tokyo Vertical Cemetery Competition, a Notable Entry in the 2015 Socrates Park Folly Competition, and the Winning Restaurant Design for the IIDA's 2015 Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition.
The studio’s work has been widely featured nationally and internationally in press outlets such as Architectural Record, Interior Design, Dwell, Domus, The Washington Post, PBS, NPR, NBC, CBS, Dezeen and Designboom.
Born and raised in Taunton Massachusetts, Josh went on to received his B. Arch at Cornell and M. Arch at Harvard. Prior to founding Hou de Sousa, Josh worked at Skidmore Owings & Merrill, Joel Sanders Architect, and Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Josh has taught at Cornell University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and currently teaches at Parsons School of Design.
