Through more than 30 years of art making, Moore has never forgotten his roots in rural Caruthers, a small agricultural town in central California. His exposure to working the land gave him a strong work ethic and an fascination with the conceptual connection between “effort”, “outcome” and human possibility. One day, under the shade of a large walnut tree, his attention was drawn to a fallen branch. It was small and old and it changed his life forever. It was with this discarded piece of wood and a simple carpenter’s hammer chisel that he began to uncover the form inside – and uncover the artist that lay within him. That experience more than 30 years ago, continues to shape his life today.

The path to his present life as an internationally collected artist with works in private and public collections was a circuitous one. It included careers in banking finance and a side interest in competitive bodybuilding. But above all there was the endless, unquenchable desire to make art. Following this desire eventually led Moore to make the commitment of a lifetime, creating a monument-sized sculpture for Kaiser Permanente. It was his jumping off point, - his “Leap of Faith”, He has never looked back.

Moore’s work is guided by the principle of Informed Simplicity. His public art works are centered around the idea of community. That community could be a school, a neighborhood, or a city. His studio practice includes residentially scaled sculpture as well as textured paintings on aluminum plate.
