I am a self-taught artist using conventional and unconventional materials to create work. By mixing paint, color pencil, book pages, ink, fire, sanding and layering textures on wood panels, then incorporating paper and found objects, a finished work is revealed. Through each stroke, dab, mark and step that leads to the finished surface, I try to bring out the relationship between differing objects and colors. I often incorporate letters and numbers as a graphic element or to convey a thought or theme. Throughout my process I have come to know that perfection is an unattainable state, and each mistake is an irreplaceable component of my process. I am inspired by found objects, fragments of antique treasures, and everyday manufactured materials that were never intended to be art.
