Mohammed Al-Sadoun

Mohammed Al-Sadoun is an Iraqi-American artist and is currently a professor of art at the United Arab Emirates University. He studied art in Iraq and the United States. Al-Sadoun witnessed many events and wars, such as the Iraq-Iran war, in addition to other armed conflicts in the Middle East as well , which had a great impact on his works and vision as a professional artist. Al-Sadoun uses a variety of unconventional materials and techniques such as burning, cloths, doors, furniture ,books and scraps.
His artworks have been exhibited in major art galleries and museums in the USA, Europe, the Middle East and Japan. Al Sadoun won an international award at the Baghdad International Festival of the Arts in 1988.
Well known German art critic Elmar Zorn (2018 ) states that " Today, at this exhibition of paintings by the Iraqi -American artist Mohammed Al-Sadoun in Hall 50 of Atelier House at Domagk Park, we witness another example of such artistic statements and representations. The brutal reality documented in Al-Sadoun’s pictures cannot erase the horrible images. That would not be humanly possible and it remains for a god to redeem humankind from all the suffering and guilt. But it is probably the only way to cope with such images. The artist has accepted this duty as a representative of the community. The intensity of Al-Sadoun’s grappling with this theme is absolutely harrowing".
