Mary Crenshaw

Bio
I was born and grew up in Richmond, Virginia (USA) where I studied at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, obtaining a BFA degree in 1977. I moved to Europe in 1984 and worked to support myself as an au pair and as a studio assistant to the artist Jennifer Bartlett. In 1987 I moved to Milan, Italy, where put I down roots, raising two sons, teaching English as a second language, and continuing to paint.

Over the years I have participated in residencies, solo, and joint exhibitions, and have had work commissioned by DeJorio Architects of Genova, Italy, and twice by Interiors, a design store in Tokyo, Japan. Returning to school as a mature student, I got an MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Boston in 2013, and recently, as an even more mature student, a Professional Doctorate in Visual Art from the University of East London in 2018. My work is represented by Galleria L'Affiche in Milan. A solo exhibition of my paintings is scheduled for September at the CICA Museum in Gimpo-Si, South Korea.
