Melissa Vogley Woods makes feminist leaning work about agency and voice through conflicting practices of abstract painting and performance-base videos. Her work includes herself as performer and author. The videos take place in domestic, architectural and institutional environment all of which become fodder for her class of foot fetish revolt. Vogley woods maintains a diverse multidisciplinary practice that crosses between painting, sculpture and video moving across mediums to toy with painting histories problematic relationship to the female body.

Vogley-woods has a rigorous exhibition history that has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally. Recent exhibitions include solos at the Weston Art Gallery Cincinnati, Raskolnikow Gallery, Dresden, Germany, Denison Museum, Denison University, Mastul e.V. Kunstverein, Berlin, Germany.

Recent group exhibitions occurred in Museum of Sisters Aslamazyan, Guimri, Armenian Republic, Detroit Michigan, Santa Monica, New Hampshire, Kentucky National, Kunstraum Peripherie, Coburg, Germany.

Recent awards include: Finalist, OMI International residency, The Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award for Craft, The Ohio Arts Council individual Excellence Award for Sculpture, The Greater Columbus Art Council Dresden Residency, Greater Columbus Arts Council Exhibition Award.

Recent curatorial projects include: Rooms to Let Columbus I and II and III and social justice events “Tracers” series of feminist exhibitions, rock concerts and panels discussions. Vogley Woods earned a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in Painting and MFA from Ohio State University with a sculpture and printmaking focus and currently teaches at Columbus College of Art and Design and Denison University.
