Michael Letts is an artist living and working in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was born in Marquette, MI, got his BFA from Northern Michigan University (NMU), and MFA from The Ohio State University in Columbus. He has taught K-12 Art and English for over ten years, and is currently a Professor of Art Education at NMU. As a painter, he has shown in many regional, national, and international exhibitions. His paintings are derived from the landscape of northern Michigan, but are based in a process and tradition of abstract painting. They incorporate themes of beauty and romance to suggest narrative content. There is a mysterious, enduring permanence in the scenes that suggest ancient forces and an existence haunted by spirits and memories.
