milt connors

Milt Connors received his BA and MA from the State University of New York at Albany. He is a visual artist working in photo-based mediums. His work is largely informed by modernist quotation, Dada/Surrealist tropes, collage/montage, film/cinema, experimental techniques, use of metaphors and incidental humor in an attempt to investigate the inherent ambiguities within art and life. He grew up in an age of consumer capitalism and the influence of mass media in American culture before the Internet, cites the Pictures Generation artists, theories of deconstruction as important early conceptual influences. The re-contextualized imagery that populate his works (both created and appropriated) are culled from understandably unworthy sources often dismissed but reflect the emptiness of commonplace themes, subjects, objects within American culture. Largely overlooked, these re-invented cultural trivialities result from a direct relationship with his immediate, daily surroundings and first-hand lived experiences.
