Jim Cavanagh

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

Graduated Xaverian High School, 1961
Artist for school newspaper
Attended Brooklyn Museum Art School, 1961-62
Received "work scholarship", studied painting and drawing
Attended Pratt Institute (Graphic Arts and Illustration) 1962-64
Dean's List student freshman year, withdrew in 3rd year

Worked as a clerk in a men's clothing store and as a registrar in the Emergency Room of The New York Hospital while in college.

Worked as a commercial artist doing layouts and mechanicals and other general board work for about 28 years (1966 through 1993). Was art director of a small ad agency for 5 years. Afterward specialized in making charts.

Gave up commercial art and drove for a car service for about 10 years. Also became an EMT during this time and volunteered at a local ambulance service.

Married with three grown children and four grandchildren.
