The paintings of International Wildlife Artist Patricia A. Griffin will make you re-examine what it means to view art depicting the natural wold. Her electrifying portraits of animals explore the subjects of humanity’s earliest artists.
Griffin was born in Philadelphia, Pa.1967. She spent her child hood roaming the hardwood hills of the Pocono Mountains, Pa. and returned to Philadelphia to receive her BFA at Moore College of Art and Design, 1989.
“My work is the result of 23 years of commitment to observing my surroundings; it is energy transferred through color. I have been influenced by many artists: Van Gogh’s energy, Rothko’s simplicity, Rungius’s ruggedness, Emily Carr’s raw emotion. These, as well as hundreds of others-both historical and contemporary, have left images etched into my mind. I can not deny the influence of the many that have forged ahead of me, but it is my trips into the last bit of wild that turn the inspiration into image. It is my primal urge to document my passion and observation of what is now so fleeting." PAG
Griffin’s contemporary images are thrilling and evocative. She bravely uses color to depict the creatures she portrays as vibrant and alive. Their simplification transcends the typical ‘every hair documented’ painting and preserves the freshness. “Behind every painting is an experience, whether it sitting amidst hundreds of bison, or watching a bear chase moose.” For visual artist Patricia A. Griffin, experiences like these are just another day at the office.
Her award-winning work is sought by collectors, both corporate and private, from Dallas to Dubai.
Griffin donates 10% of sales to heritage breed and wildlife conservation.
