Patricia Kushner was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada , a child of parents who emigrated to Canada from the United Kingdom. She had wanted to be an artist since an early age, and in 1971 she entered the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr University) and graduated in 1975 with Honours in Lithography and Design. During those 4 years, she earned British Columbia government scholarships and was given the Norman Rothstein Award.
Since then, she has always worked on her art, in her studio, whether living in Vancouver, Montreal, New York City or the Czech Republic. She has shown her work in those places as well as in the United Kingdom, Japan and China.
The focus of her work has been painting, sculpture and collage. Over the years her work and ideas have evolved, but she continues to use a figure to express her feelings about life, relationships and the human spirit.
She currently lives and works in the Okanagan Valley area of British Columbia.
