Ruvan Wijesooriya is a photographer based in New York City. After starting a skateboard company, working for fashion stylists and being a music journalist in his first 25 years, Ruvan became attracted to the storytelling qualities of analog photography. His unique vision consistently and seamlessly blurs the lines between life, art and commerce in subject areas ranging from landscapes to fashion, music to flowers. His photographs are a record of his interests, passions and inspirations, his approach always immediate, genuine and curious.
Ruvan has shown internationally and is known for the interactive and happening nature of his exhibitions. In February 2012 he curated an exhibition for the Swedish Consulate of New York; March saw an exhibition of his music photographs at SXSW in Austin, Texas. In late Spring he embarked on a tour doing a series of exhibits in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and London. His foot is snugly rooted in pop culture with his film stills appearing in the LCD Soundsystem documentary,Shut Up And Play The Hits; his book, LCD, was made available through powerHouse Books in December after a widely attended and reported launch event in Miami Beach during Art Basel. Ruvan was most recently featured in the Don’t Stop Now: Fashion Photography Next exhibition at Foam Museum in Amsterdam this past summer.
