I am a New York based artist who creates paintings and constructions using black India ink painted onto the surface of clear sanded plexiglass. My paintings observe people standing, sleeping, talking or traveling, daily activities usually unnoticed. My work offers an environment to slow down and internalize the moment. The images are sourced from my photographs, then transformed through a unique process of painting black India ink onto the surface of sanded plexiglass. I apply multiple layers of ink washes: creating soft grays, deep blacks, while sanding out ink to yield luminous white. This articulates a physical presence, imbuing the image with a subtle painterly body. Refracted light is held within the body of the plexiglass, causing a luminous dimensionality, creating a concentrated presence.
