Sidney Turner

Born and raised in Flatbush Brooklyn, New York, my childhood was influenced greatly by artists in my family. My grandmother, Sadie, was a painter; my Aunt Edith was a marvelous painter as well and spent her life committed to her work. Her love and talent continues to inspire my life and work. My uncle, George Bergen, was an artist connected to the Bloomsbury group through relationships with Duncan Grant and later, Grant’s daughter Angelica. I have lived, and continue to live, in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Other artists who inspired me in my work are many, with a notable few - Edward Hopper, Salvador Dali and Giogio de Chirico, and Marcel Duchamp.
Colored pencils, which I picked up during my stay at School of Visual Arts and later as an Illustrator, have always been my preferred medium. Their richness of color and pointed control has always worked in my process.
