Susan James

I am a printmaker who uses the 19th century Talbot-Klič photogravure process to create my prints. I work mostly in a Pictorialist style and combine digital photography, photo-compositing, and digital illustration when I create the film I will expose to my plate. I find crossing creative boundaries. and blending modern technology with historic processes to be a compelling and satisfying path for my creative expression. If someone struggles to categorize my work as one thing or another, I don't think that's a bad thing: I want the observer to feel a little discombobulated, and to seek more information about how my work is created.
