Swati Gupta

Born in 1990 and brought in Delhi, I graduated with University and College Honors from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. I have earned BS degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Economics, plus minors in Computer Science and Computational Finance. My association with paints has been special since childhood and at the age of 14, I pursued a diploma in fine arts from the Bangiya Sangeet Parishad. I owe my accomplishments as an artist to Shri S. S. Kukkal, under whose aegis I grew and matured my style and form.
My work is often imbued with social, emotional and geographical trajectories that influence our sub-conscious. The paintings are largely rendered in acrylic, watercolor, ink and mixed media. The creative photographs have been created using both, film and digital cameras. I believe art has no boundaries and use various materials as my canvas: cotton stoles, old dhotis, waste printed cloths, gesso-ed boards, leather or traditional canvas. The subject determines my choice of style and material.
I try to personify my experiences through my works, and translate my personal inquiry within into potent mindscapes that draw the viewer into the stream of consciousness. My belief that watercolors are on the verge of becoming a lost medium creates a special resonance with me. I am enamored by their fluidity since, just as my thought process, they assist me in going with the flow.
I live in New Delhi with my husband, and manage our business full-time. I find solace in my paints, music and experiments with cooking. My favorite way to unwind is to play with our dog, Caramel. I will begin my Masters at the Indian School of Business in August 2015.
