Toby Zallman is a Chicago visual artist who shows both locally and nationally. A partial list of exhibitions includes one-or two-person shows at Perimeter Gallery, the Chicago Cultural Center, Indiana University Northwest Gallery and the Elmhurst Museum, and group exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art—Chicago, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, the Illinois State Museum, The Koehnline Art Museum at Oakton Community College, the Evanston Art Center and St. John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict Galleries. Earlier in her career, Zallman was a member of Artemisia Gallery where she had three one-person exhibitions and was included in several group shows, one of which traveled to Hallwalls in Buffalo, NY.

For many years Zallman focused exclusively on sculpture, but recently has also been doing paintings and large-scale drawings. Since 2004 she has been doing work which uses recycled materials, such as computer carcasses, keyboards, telephone handsets and plastic bags and water bottles.

Zallman has had artist residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo and numerous
residencies at the Ragdale Foundation Artist Colony. She has receive several grants from the Illinois Arts Council and Community Assistant Grants from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

Zallman received her BFA degree from Tyler School of Art. While she has, for the last 30 years, earned her living as a graphic designer, Zallman has recently begun focusing more time on her art practice.
