Kathleen Migliore-Newton

I grew up in a small town in Michigan and am the first in my family to go to college. I love the City, it’s diversity, it’s opportunities, it’s culture. I graduated from Pratt Institute. I lived in Los Angeles where I exhibited in the Art Rental Gallery of the LA County Museum and Womanspace. When my family moved to NYC, I exhibited in many spaces including The Henry Street Settlement, PS 122, Columbia University, The New Museum, the Alternative Museum and some international juried shows. The past few years I exhibited in group shows, including at Blank Space Gallery in Chelsea and College of St. Elizabeth in New Jersey. I also had a one person show at Berkeley College in New York and have exhibited through the Art in the Embassies twice..

Besides working as an artist for over 40 years, I taught English as a Second Language to adult immigrants for the New York City Adult Education Program. I loved my students. Their experiences and presence have informed my work.

I am primarily interested in painting or drawing the figure. Each subject raises a series of questions. How realistic will the painting be? How does the image relate to the two dimensional surface? What does the physical appearance or gesture reveal about a person’s interior life?
