Victor Ekpuk (born 1964, Nigeria) is a multimedia artist living and working in Washington DC metropolitan area. His work draws inspiration from symbols within ancient writing systems in Africa, he uses these arcane signs and invented pseudo-writings to express contemporary ideas. His current body of work is devoted to exploring the visual aesthetics of these symbols solely as abstract forms.
Ekpuk's works are in private and public collections such as Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African Art, Newark Museum, and The World Bank. They have also been featured in several international and national exhibitions including the 3rd Guangzhou Triennial in China, Museum of Art and Design in New York, New Museum in New York, Barbican Gallery in London and a host of other important institutions as well as galleries in the United States and abroad.
