Valerie Patritti

My name is Valerie Patritti and I was born in Los Angeles, California on January 21, 1986. My interest in art began at the age of 5 when I was selected to display my art on the big screen on 42nd Street Times Square. Since then, art has always been a part of my life. In 1999 I studied abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay where I lived for two years. At the same time I attended art classes at the institute of
“El Ateneo de Montevideo”. There, I began to develop my art through the teachings of my art professor, Obdulio Carrasco. Every class he would teach art history as well as useful techniques in painting. During this time my appreciation for art began as well as my development as an artist and subsequently had my first exhibition in the institute in 2000. I later returned to the United States where I attended
Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts and majored in Art. During my high school years, I embraced many areas of art such as art history, photography, ceramics, mural painting, etc. After graduating, I enrolled in SUNY Purchase College as a Latin American Studies major. My freshman year was spent abroad in Burgos, Spain where I took literature courses and spent time traveling throughout Spain and visiting Portugal, Morocco, and Germany. My time abroad expanded my educational and spiritual horizons and further inspired my artwork. During my college years, I was granted the opportunity to publish my artwork in SUNY Purchase’s magazine, The Submission. I published my first work in December 2006 and four years later on December 2010. I had my first show in New York on September 23, 2009 at Sapphire Lounge. I value different art forms and am constantly learning new techniques and ways of expressing my art. I work with acrylic, oils, and mixed media in my paintings. I am currently exhibiting my work for the month of March 2010 at the
Brentwood Public Library.
